04 Sep Grass Court Update
Weather conditions both heat and sunlight are all connected together and determine a grass courts ability to recover from wear. Sadly due to excessive wear our Green keeper Chris Ashton was forced to close the courts.
This doesn’t mean that he hasn’t been busy. During July there was work done to control winter weeds. In mid August with the help of club volunteers the courts were vertimowed. This took 3 days and the removal of 15 ute loads of compacted grass from the courts. This is just a small part of what it takes to make the ideal grass court. On the 25th August the courts were lightly fertilized. Within a few days of this the courts were showing signs of growth’
September will see lot of rolling, weed management and minor repair work will take place.
Nature and weather are unpredictable so it is hard to give a solid date at this stage but Chris is aiming to have some courts up and running by the start of October
