The Busselton Tennis Club has operated from it’s current site near the Busselton jetty for more than 100 years.
A few years ago the Busselton Foreshore Master Plan ( map attached ) identified this site for future development associated with the extensive work already done to revitalise the Busselton Foreshore.
The City of Busselton indicated the Club’s lease would not be extended beyond 2021 when it was due to expire. An Agreement between the City of Busselton and the Busselton Tennis Club was struck to relocate the Busselton Tennis Club to a site 500 metres to the east on Barnard Park on a “like for like” basis.
While there is some sadness about moving from the excellent current site and facility, the Club have embraced the relocation as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity to develop the best Regional Tennis Centre in Australia. When completed it will be an outstanding facility for Club, community, coaching and tournaments.
The new Busselton Tennis Centre will, initially, have at least 13 grass courts, 6 plexi pave courts under lights, a modern clubhouse with excellent coaching facilities and ancilliary facilities when it is opened on 31st October, 2019.
Ultimately, the new Centre will have at least 14 grass courts, a full 12 court complex under lights, a hot shot court and book-a-court technology, etc to encourage full useage for the Busselton Tennis Club, community tennis players, Tennis Australia Tournaments and a professional coaching service.
Development of the grass courts is well underway and work will start on the clubhouse and plexi pave courts later in 2018.
